Cebu, Philippines

Executive summary by darmansjah

The many islands of Philippines offer a great variety of activities but if there is one place in the country to get an all-in-one experience, Cebu is where it would be. The gorgeous white sand beaches of its beach resorts are perfect for lazing around in your trunks and bikinis and if you don’t mind getting wet, you will discover an amazing underwater landscape teeming with marine life. In Cebu City, you will find a cultural richness personified by its architecture and entertainment options that will continue to occupy you long after sunset. The plush private resorts of Mactan Island offer a luxurious getaway but a lower premiums compared to similar accommodation elsewhere in the world. On top of this, there’s a good chance of securing a lower rate if you visit during the off-peak months of September and October, which usually is in the rainy season. If you don’t plan on venturing beyond the boundaries of the wonderful resorts though, it is an inexpensive opportunity for a romantic holiday for two.

Cebu Pacific, Silk air, and Tiger Airways fly direct from Singapore Changi Airport to Mactan-Cebu International Airport. From Kuala Lumpur, fly into Manila before connecting to Cebu with Airphil Express, Cebu pacific, Philippine Airlines or Zest Airways.

Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort & Spa sets the benchmark for the standard of service on the island and has a wonderful beach that never seems overcrowded. Free shuttle services to the city depart regularly from the resort (from US$270).
